Driving license Rules: Ministry of Road Transport and Highways announced new rules for obtaining a driving license in India. Now from June 1, 2024, people can give their driving test at private driving schools instead of government regional transport offices (RTOs). These private schools will be allowed to take the tests required for driving license and provide certificates. At the same time, now you will get freedom from making rounds of RTO.

If a minor is caught driving, there will be a huge fine

The new rules aim to cut pollution by scrapping about 900,000 old government vehicles and imposing stricter car emissions standards. According to the new rules, the fine for speeding still ranges between Rs 1000 to Rs 2000. But if a minor is caught driving, he will have to pay a fine of Rs 25,000.

Also, the registration of the vehicle owner will be canceled and the minor will not be able to get a license till the age of 25 years. The ministry has made it easier to obtain a new license by reducing the paperwork required. The documents required depend on whether you are applying for a two-wheeler or four-wheeler license, which means less physical checks are required at the RTO.

What are the rules for private driving schools

According to the rules, the driving training center should have at least 1 acre of land. If they provide training for four-wheelers, they will need two acres of land. Driving schools should have proper testing facility. Instructors must have a high school diploma, at least five years of driving experience, and knowledge of biometrics and IT systems.
