Driving License: Your driving license may be canceled if you do not pay the traffic challan? check rules

Driving License: If your vehicle has been fined many times, then you need to be alert. If you do not pay the fine on time, your driving license can now be cancelled. The Chandigarh administration announced on Monday that if a resident has five or more fines pending in his name, his driving license will be cancelled and the registration certificates of his vehicles will also be cancelled.

Speaking to the Indian Express, Pradyuman Singh, in-charge of the Registration and Licensing Authority of the Transport Department, said that he took this decision because more than 7.5 lakh fines have not been settled.

He said, “Traffic violations are the biggest cause of road accidents and in the last two-three years, Chandigarh has witnessed a sharp rise in non-payment of traffic violations, which is a cause of concern and needs immediate attention.”

Driving license will be canceled for these traffic violations

The official further said, “Despite repeated reminders and notices, a large number of drivers have been negligent in paying the fines for offenses like speeding, jumping red lights and dangerous driving. In such a situation, the Chandigarh Administration has decided that notices will be sent to the violators to pay the outstanding amount within 15 days, failing which their driving license will be canceled and the vehicle registration certificate will be suspended.”

The vehicle registration certificate will remain canceled until the fine is paid

Apart from this, the vehicles of the violators will be marked ‘non-transactional’, which will prohibit any type of transaction including ownership transfer, renewal of registration certificate (RC) and issuance of duplicate RC until the fine is paid.

In UP too, license will be cancelled if challan is issued repeatedly

In Uttar Pradesh, if traffic rules are ignored repeatedly or if the vehicle is challaned repeatedly, then the driving license of its owner can be cancelled. CM Yogi Adityanath has ordered that those who ignore the rules should be identified. Drivers who repeatedly break traffic rules should not only have their licenses cancelled but in case of commercial vehicles, their permits should also be cancelled. CM Yogi has ordered strict action against bike, car and e-rickshaw drivers who break traffic rules.
