How important is PAN Card?

PAN (Permanent Account Number) card is one of the important documents required while carrying out monetary transactions, sales and purchases, applying for visas and most importantly while filing Income Tax Returns (ITR). This is a ten digit alphanumeric number issued to the citizens by the Income Tax Department of India.

If you have lost or misplaced your PAN card, you can apply for a duplicate PAN online or offline, or download an electronic PAN card or e-PAN card from the e-filing portal of the IT department.

How to make duplicate PAN card?

In case of loss or theft of PAN card, first of all you will have to immediately lodge a complaint at your nearest police station and keep a copy of the FIR with you. In such a situation, the possibility of fraud with your PAN is reduced. Come, let us know about the rest of the process of making it-

  • Visit the official website TIN-NSDL.
  • Select the application type as Changes or correction in existing PAN data/ Reprint of PAN card (No changes in existing PAN data).
  • Fill the mandatory information like name, date of birth, mobile number and then submit.
  • After this a token number will be generated and sent to the registered email of the applicant for future reference.
  • Go to the Personal Details page and fill all the details. You can choose any one of the methods of submitting PAN application from the available options.
  • You have to choose between physical PAN card and e-PAN card. A valid email address will be required for e-PAN card.
  • Submit the application by filling the contact information and document details.
  • After this process you will be redirected to the payment page. You will get a receipt after paying the money.
  • Your new PAN card will be issued within 15-20 working days.
