e-ticket cancellation charges: There are two categories under which IRCTC will process refunds for cancelled e-tickets of Indian Railways. The first category is ‘Before Preparation of Charts’ and the second category is ‘After Preparation of Charts. For both the categories, the refund would be processed by IRCTC after deducting charges (if any) within 5 to 7 working days depending upon the mode of payment.

E-tickets sold through IRCTC website or app cannot be canceled offline, it has to be done online only. The e-ticket can be canceled over the internet on this website till the train chart is prepared. Face-to-face cancellations are not permitted at railway counters.”

Process for cancellation of IRCTC e-ticket before chart preparation

  1. Visit www.irctc.co.in and login using your credentials.

2. Go to the ‘Booked Tickets’ tab and select the specific train ticket you want to cancel. Once selected confirm it. Now the tickets will be cancelled.

Ticket cancellation through mobile app

  1. Log in to the IRCTC Rail Connect app.

2. Select ‘Train’ from the home screen. Then go to ‘My Bookings’. There will be two tabs here: ‘Upcoming’ and ‘Complete’. Click ‘Next’. Select the train tickets you wish to cancel. Then click on the Menu button which is represented by three dots (…). There will be five options available here. Click on ‘Cancel Ticket’. Then confirm the cancellation.

Charges on cancellation of e-ticket:

Cancellation charges are per passenger and are applicable only if the confirmed e-ticket is canceled more than 48 hours before the scheduled departure of the train. Keep in mind that all of these fees are flat rates.

E-Ticket Cancellation Fee:

Rs 240 for AC First Class/Executive Class,
Rs 200 for AC 2 tier/first class,
Rs 180 for AC 3 tier/AC chair car/AC 3 economy,
Rs 120 more for sleeper class
Rs 60 for second class.

If a confirmed e-ticket is canceled within 48 hours and up to 12 hours before the scheduled departure of the train, the charges are 25% of the e-ticket fare or the minimum flat rate. As stated above, whichever is higher.

For tickets canceled less than 12 hours and four hours before the scheduled departure time and till the time chart is prepared, cancellation charges are 50% of the e-ticket fare.
