Electricity Price in UP: Yogi government of Uttar Pradesh can provide big relief to the common man in the coming days. It is expected that electricity prices will not be increased in the state. After the protest by the Consumer Council, the Power Corporation has proposed to reduce the fuel surcharge. This decline will provide huge relief to consumers per unit. For this, the proposal for the first quarter has been filed in the Regulatory Commission by the Power Corporation. In this, it has been proposed to reduce the per unit rate of electricity from 18 to 69 paise.
Benefit of Rs 50 to 90 per kilo watt
At present, Rs 500 per kilo watt is charged from unmetered domestic customers in rural areas of UP. After this change, it will be reduced by Rs 50 to 90 per kilowatt every month. Similarly, farmers will have to pay Rs 48.43 less for one horse power. In this way, unmetered customers will get a benefit of about Rs 50 to 90 per kilo watt every month. A proposal has been filed by the Power Corporation for the first quarter of the financial year 2023-24.
Surcharge will have to be returned for the next three months
Under this proposal, the surcharge taken from customers in April, May and June will have to be refunded for the next three months. Under this, Rs 1055 crore will be returned. Earlier in July 2023, fuel surcharge of 61 paise per unit was proposed. This was also opposed by the Consumer Council. After objections came, the Power Corporation had to step back. Now a proposal has been filed for reduction of head charge by 35 paise per unit according to different categories.
In this regard, Council Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma met Regulatory Commission Chairman Arvind Kumar. Demanded to accept the proposal of reduced rate so that the customers can get its benefit for the next three months. This means that crores of electricity consumers will get relief in their bills for October, November and December. About Rs 33122 crore are outstanding from electricity consumers to the corporations.

- Commercial – 34 to 48 paise per unit
- Farmer – 13 to 30 paise per unit
- Non Industrial Bulkload – Rs 46 to Rs 69 per unit
- Heavy Industry – 33 to 38 paise per unit
