Delhi Electricity Rate Hike: The Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission has approved a 9.2 percent increase in electricity rates. Understand, how much this decision will affect the electricity bill of your house.
New Delhi: Electricity is going to be expensive in the country’s capital. The energy regulator has given permission to power distribution companies to increase rates. Now BSES Yamuna Power Limited (BYPL) will be able to charge an additional 9.42% over and above the existing rates. BSES Rajdhani Power Limited (BRPL) has been allowed to charge an additional 6.39% and New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) 2%. However, this will not be a burden on electricity consumers. An official statement from the Delhi government said that consumers will not be directly affected by the rate hike. The Delhi administration has attributed the increase in the prices of coal and gas as the reason behind the increase in electricity rates in Delhi. At the same time, Delhi’s Energy Minister Atishi further clarified the situation regarding the cost of electricity. He said that the scheme of use free electricity till 200 units will continue. Now what will happen to the free electricity scheme in Delhi?
Electricity bill will remain free up to 200 units every month. Atishi said that for spending electricity above 200 units, one will have to pay at increased rates. The minister said that an 8 percent charge would be levied on him. Means if the bill comes for 201 units also then extra charge will have to be paid.

What is the rule of electricity subsidy in Delhi?
At present, the Delhi government gives 100 percent subsidy on the use of up to 200 units of electricity every month. On spending 201 to 400 units a month, payment has to be made at half the rate. There are about 58 lakh electricity consumers in Delhi, out of which 47 lakh get subsidy. Out of these, there are 30 lakhs whose monthly bill comes to zero.
