New rates will be applicable from October 1

Let us tell you that the new electricity rates will become effective from October 1, 2023. TSECL, once a profit-making government entity, has incurred a total loss of Rs 280 crore during the financial year 2021-22 and Rs 80 crore in the first three months of the current financial year.

Earlier there was a change in 2014

TSECL had earlier changed the electricity rates in 2014. At present, there are about 10 lakh electricity consumers in the north-eastern state.

The decision has been taken after much consideration

TSECL Managing Director Debashish Sarkar told PTI that after considering all factors and in consultation with the Tripura Electricity Regulatory Commission (TERC), power tariffs will be reduced by an average of 5-7 per cent to save the power corporation. The increase has been made.”

Why were electricity prices increased?

Let us tell you that the main reason behind the increase in electricity rates is the increase in the price of gas. In the last few years it has increased by about 196 percent.

Government gave information

The government has said that earlier, TSECL used to spend Rs 15 crore per month on purchasing gas to run gas-based power generation units, but now this expenditure has increased to Rs 35-40 crore per month. There is no option other than increasing electricity rates.
