The entire security amount is refunded to the consumer when the connection is disconnected.
Bijli Bill: The additional security deposit (ASD) collected from consumers will be collected in installments every month. Earlier, it was collected in lump sum in a year.
This security deposit is determined on the basis of the consumer’s electricity consumption throughout the year. The Energy Corporation has started collecting it in installments from the April bill. However, there is still confusion among the general consumers about this.
In Uttarakhand, electricity rates have been increased by 6.92 percent from this month. Consumers and opposition political parties are continuously protesting against it. Meanwhile, the consumers’ uneasiness has increased due to the addition of additional security deposit in the April bills. Actually, ASD was collected only once in the year earlier.
Notices were sent to those who did not pay the security money
Notices were also sent by the Energy Corporation to those who did not pay the security money. However, due to the large amount, it was not possible for the common consumer to make a lump sum payment at the end of the financial year and the energy corporation had to make a lot of efforts to recover the huge amount.
Now from the beginning of the financial year 2024-25, the system of recovering the security deposit in installments has been started. Which will be added to the bill every month.
The amount is deposited with the Energy Corporation as a security deposit

On closing the connection, the entire security amount is refunded to the consumers. Also, it is paid with interest. Those whose bill is less than the previously deposited security deposit, their bill is reduced by adding the deposit.
Understand the additional security deposit like this
While taking a new connection, both the consumer and the Energy Corporation do not know the annual electricity consumption on the connection. In such a situation, the security deposit deposited while taking the connection is very normal.
If the consumer consumes more electricity than the security deposit, then additional security deposit is demanded from them. For consumers whose electricity consumption is less than the security deposit, their bill is sent with a reduced amount.
The cycle is of 30 days
The cycle of electricity bill is of 30 days, whereas, it takes two to seven days to prepare it and deliver it to the consumers. Consumers are given seven to 15 days to pay the bill. In such a situation, the consumers have already consumed electricity for 45 days. In such a situation, ASD is also charged for the consumption of extra electricity.
