Consumers will get interest at the rate of 6.75 percent on their deposit security for the year 2023-24. The interest amount will be adjusted in the electricity bill of the consumers. Electricity companies will issue bills to consumers by reducing the interest amount in the bills of May and June.
Under the provisions given in the Electricity Act-2003, the Power Corporation management has issued orders to pay interest to consumers on their deposited security every year. Electricity companies have Rs 4500 crore deposited as security deposit of consumers. On which interest of about Rs 303 crore is being generated, which the power companies will give to the consumers.
Consumer Council Chairman Awadhesh Kumar Verma has expressed gratitude to Power Corporation’s Managing Director Pankaj Kumar and Director Commercial AK Srivastava for issuing the order. Consumers have been appealed to check in the upcoming electricity bills whether the interest amount has been given to them or not. In case of any problem, you can contact the council.
Awadhesh Verma has told that consumers will get interest on their deposit security in the year 2023-24 at the rate of 6.75 percent notified by the Reserve Bank of India from April 1, 2024. According to the Director Commercial, from the last week of this month, the electricity consumers of the state will start seeing the adjustment of interest received on their deposited security in their electricity bills.

If a consumer’s connection is of one kilowatt, then his security amount of Rs 300 is deposited with the electricity companies. The consumer will get about 20 rupees 25 paise interest on this security amount. This amount will be adjusted (deducted) in the electricity bill of the consumer. Similarly, the amount of interest will increase accordingly as per the connection load.
