Electricity Connection Free 2021: Get electricity connection for free from the government’s ‘Saubhagya Scheme’, how to know

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government has launched Sahaj Bijli Ghar Yojana (Saubhagya or SAUBHAGYA) to provide electricity to every household in the country. The objective of this scheme is to provide electricity to all villages in states like Uttar Pradesh, Odisha, Jammu Kashmir, Jharkhand, Delhi, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh. The SAUBHAGYA scheme was launched on 25 September 2017 on the occasion of the birth anniversary of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhyay. Under this scheme, poor people will be given electricity connection for free.

About the SAUBHAGYA scheme

Those who are named in the socio-economic census of 2011 will be given free electricity connection under the SAUBHAGYA scheme. Those who are not named in the social-economic census will be given electricity connection for only Rs. 500. These people will have to deposit ten installments of 500 rupees.



Benefits provided under SAUBHAGYA scheme

The government has decided that in every part of the country where there is no electricity, the government will give a solar pack to every house under this scheme and not only that they will be given 5 LED bulbs and a fan.

According to the government’s estimate, 40 million households in the country still have no electricity. For this, the government has set a budget of 16 thousand crores to illuminate these houses. Under the Saubhagya scheme, the government will make kerosene an alternative to electricity.



Objective of SAUBHAGYA Scheme

Eligibility for SAUBHAGYA Scheme

  • Those people who do not have electricity in their homes will be given electricity connection under this scheme.
  • Under this scheme, electricity connection will be given to those whose names will be recorded in the 2011 Social-Economic Census.
  • The applicant should have all the necessary documents such as Aadhaar card, Voter card, residence certificate, passport size photo, PAN card etc.
