Electricity Corporation has geared up to stop electricity theft in Ghaziabad and to relieve consumers from the problem of electricity bills. For this, smart meters will be installed which will also help in detecting electricity theft. Initially, smart meters will be installed on the feeders of power substations, after which smart meters will be installed on transformers. This will curb electricity theft.
Electricity Corporation is preparing to stop electricity theft and reduce electricity consumption and to relieve consumers from the problem of electricity bills. For this, smart meters will be installed, which will also detect electricity theft. Initially, smart meters will be installed on the feeders of electricity substations, after which smart meters will be installed on transformers.
Later, after government offices and residences, there is a plan to install smart meters at the homes of consumers. In Ghaziabad district, 41 electricity substations are operated for about four lakh 25 thousand consumers. These are 231 feeders including incoming and outgoing. The work of installing smart meters on the feeders of electricity substations has been started by the Electricity Corporation.
There are more than 30 thousand consumers with commercial connections
Gaziabad Zone 1 has more than two lakh domestic consumers, out of which more than 8500 are prepaid consumers. Zone 1 has more than 30 thousand consumers with commercial electricity connections, out of which more than 1200 are prepaid consumers. At the same time, there are more than two and a half thousand connections of small and micro industries and 439 connections of big industries.
Instructions to expedite the installation of smart meters
The number of power sub-stations is 40. To prevent power theft, the Electricity Corporation has initially started the work of installing smart meters on the feeders of the sub-stations, in which instructions have been given to expedite it.
Chief Engineer Ghaziabad Zone Ashok Sundaram said that for this, a meeting was held with the concerned company officials to expedite the installation of smart meters, in which necessary guidelines have been given.
Initially, smart meters will be installed on the feeders. After this, smart meters will be installed on transformers and government offices and residences. So that the message reaches the consumers. After this, there is a preparation to install smart meters at the homes of consumers.
Zone wise electricity consumers in Ghaziabad
- Zone one (Ghaziabad city) around 2.35 lakh
- Zone two (Loni, Modinagar and Modinagar) around 4.15 lakh
- Zone three (Trans Hindon) around 4.15 lakh
The work of meter reader will end
After the completion of the work of all three phases, the work of meter reader going from house to house to collect electricity bills will end. Wrong billing will also be eliminated. If the meter is bypassed, the power will be turned off. There will also be a possibility of the chip in the meter getting blocked. In such a situation, theft will stop and there will be no possibility of wrong bill and fraud.
Will be completed by the year 2026
The work of installing smart meters has been divided into three zones by the Electricity Corporation. There are about 10.65 lakh electricity consumers in all the three zones. Officials claim that the work of installing smart meters will be done fast, which will be completed by the year 2026 and smart meters will be installed in all the houses.
