The Employees’ Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) extended the timeline for mandatory seeding of EPF’s UAN and Aadhaar by 3 months to September 1 as against June 1 previously. The extension has been announced on the request of the government amid the second Covid 19 wave, two people privy to the development told a leading publication.
The EPFO on June 15 released a circular concerning the deadline extension for aadhaar and UAN linking and said, “Further, all the employers may be advised by concerned field offices to be ready for implementation after the period of deferment.”
On June 10, 2021, a leading daily reported that the two social security bodies within the labour ministry shared varied views on making Aadhaar compulsory for complying with one of the clauses of the CoSS or code on social security.
Notably while the ESIC decided not to deny benefits to insured subscribers due to the requirement of Aadhaar, EPFO mandated the linking of UAN and Aadhaar from June 1. Consequently, employers were not able to deposit the PF contribution of EPF subscriber who didn’t link their Aadhaar and UAN.
