What is Provident Fund (PF)?
Provident Fund is a long term savings scheme. This scheme is run by the Employees’ Provident Fund Organization (EPFO). Both the employee and the employer deposit a fixed amount of salary in the EPF account. By doing this, a large fund is created at the time of retirement.
Ways to check PF balance
1. Checking PF balance from EPFO portal
Step 1: Activate your UAN
Visit the official website of EPFO.
Select ‘Member UAN/Online Service’ in the ‘For Employees’ section.
Click on ‘Activate UAN’.
Fill in your UAN, mobile number and PF member ID.
Activate UAN by following the instructions.
Step 2: Login
Go to the ‘Member UAN/Online Services’ screen.
Log in by entering your UAN, password and captcha.
Step 3: View balance
Click on the ‘View’ tab.
Select ‘Passbook’.
Your PF passbook will display the balance and transaction details.
2. Check PF balance with UMANG app
The UMANG app is a government platform through which you can avail EPFO related services.
Step 1: Go to the home screen of the app and type ‘EPFO’ in the search bar.
Step 2: Select EPFO services.
Step 3: Click on the ‘View Passbook’ or ‘PF Balance’ option.
Step 4: Enter your UAN and submit.
Step 5: Now you can view your PF balance, transaction history and other details.
3. Check balance through SMS and missed call
Through SMS:
Send ‘EPFOHO UAN’ to 7738299899 from your registered mobile number.
Through missed call:
Give a missed call to 011-22901406 from your registered mobile number.
How to check PF balance?

Step-by-step guide for PF withdrawal
Step 1: Log in to the EPFO portal.
Step 2: Go to the ‘Online Services’ tab and select ‘Claim (Form-31, 19 & 10C)’.
Step 3: Enter the last 4 digits of your bank account and click on ‘Verify’.
Step 4: Click on ‘Proceed For Online Claim’ and select the withdrawal type.
Step 5: Fill in all the required details and upload documents if required.
Step 6: Submit the form. After the complete process of PF withdrawal, the money will be transferred to your bank account within 10-20 days.
