In fact, the Union Cabinet has increased ethanol prices by 80 paise to Rs 2.55 per liter to directly benefit sugarcane farmers. With this, the price of sugarcane based ethanol will increase from Rs 62.65 to Rs 63.45 per liter. Union Minister Anurag Singh Thakur said that the new prices of ethanol will be applicable from December 1, 2021.
What will be the new prices for which category of ethanol?
Union Minister Anurag Thakur said that the price of ethanol derived from B category sera has been increased by Rs 2.55 to Rs 59.08 per liter from Rs 57.61 per liter at present. At the same time, the price of ethanol from C category sera has been increased by Rs 2.12 to Rs 46.66 per liter from Rs 44.54. Earlier, in October 2020, the central government had increased the price of ethanol extracted from sugarcane by Rs 3.34 per liter.
‘Farmers of 12 states will be directly benefited’
Anurag Thakur said that farmers of 12 states of the country will get direct benefit from the increase in ethanol prices. He said that the price of ethanol made from sugarcane molasses has been increased from Rs 59.48 per liter during the supply year beginning December 2020 to Rs 62.65 per liter now.

Work on 20 percent ethanol blending is going on
The central government said that by increasing the prices of ethanol, sugarcane farmers will be able to get better prices for their crops. The government is implementing the Ethanol Blending Petrol Program (EBP Program) in areas selling 10% ethanol blended petrol. The government has implemented this program across the country from April 1, 2019. However, this program has not yet been implemented in Andaman-Nicobar and Lakshadweep. The government is working on a plan of 20 percent ethanol blending from June 2021, which is targeted to be implemented from April 2025.
