KYC of Fastag is Mandatory: National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) has launched the ‘One Vehicle, One Fastag’ initiative. The objective of this initiative is to prevent the use of a single FASTag for multiple vehicles or linking of multiple FASTags for a particular vehicle. It has been made mandatory to get KYC done for Fastag before the scheduled time. Fastags with incomplete KYC along with outstanding amount will be deactivated/blacklisted by banks after January 31, 2024 and you will have to pay penalty on reaching toll.

JP Mattu Singh, ADG of PIB in the Ministry of Road Transport, says that old Fastags will come under the purview of KYC. Because the Fastags taken over the last few years are linked to Aadhaar and their KYC has also been done. This type of problem is being faced in the old Fastag, which will be blacklisted.

Where to go to get KYC done?

Such Fastag holders will have to go to their banker and get their KYC updated. For example, if someone has taken Fastag from Paytm, then he will have to go to Paytm to get it updated, if someone has taken it from the bank, then he will have to go there and get it updated.

In this regard, transport expert Anil Chhikara said that some drivers are misusing it. He is driving a small Fastag commercial vehicle. For example, the toll for a small vehicle is Rs 100 and for a commercial vehicle is Rs 500. The number of small vehicle is registered in Fastag, in such a case the card reader will read the commercial vehicle as small vehicle and only Rs 100 toll will be deducted. In this way, drivers are losing revenue. Therefore, it will be mandatory to install one Fastag in each vehicle.

FASTag users will also have to comply with ‘One Vehicle, One FASTag’ and surrender all FASTags previously issued through their respective banks. Only the latest FASTag account will remain active as previous tags will be deactivated/blacklisted after 31 January 2024.
