Actually, a girl student who took admission in B.Tech course had deposited a fee of Rs 2.02 lakh for the entire semester. Classes could not start due to the third wave of Corona. In such a situation, the family demanded the refund of money from the university administration, but the management refused. After this the aggrieved party reached the District Consumer Commission.
According to the information, Dharmendra Kumar Tiwari, a resident of Rajnagar Part-2, is a Colonel in the Indian Army. His daughter Nupur Tiwari took admission in B.Tech in Noida Amity University on 13 September 2021. On 23 August 2021, the fees were deposited by paying Rs 2.02 lakh for the entire semester through NEFT. The course could not be started due to the third wave of the Covid 19 pandemic.
The university proposed to run the course in virtual mode and physical mode. There were chaos due to Covid. Due to this, the family decided to remove the student from the university. On 14 December 2021, the admission was cancelled and the money was demanded back from the university. The university refused to refund the fees. Whereas there was a provision to refund the entire fee if the student’s admission is cancelled by 31 October and to refund the remaining fee after deducting one thousand rupees if the admission is cancelled by 31 December.
What is UGC Fees Refund Policy?
According to the instructions of UGC, the student is entitled to get Rs 2.01 lakh. The victim filed a case in the District Consumer Commission. The matter was heard in the commission. During the hearing, the university presented its side. He said that the rules of the university are followed regarding the refund of fees. The commission does not have the jurisdiction to hear the case. If a student withdraws after 30 days of admission, then no fee will be refunded except security. The commission has considered it a violation of UGC guidelines. As per UGC guidelines, Rs 1,000 should have been deducted and the remaining amount should have been returned.
