Female cheetah Asha gives birth to 3 cubs in Kuno National Park, video goes viral

The Union Minister said in the post that my hearty congratulations to all the experts involved in the project, Kuno wildlife officers and wildlife lovers across India.

On the occasion of New Year, good news has come from Kuno National Park in Madhya Pradesh. Here female cheetah Asha has given birth to 3 cubs. Union Environment, Forest and Climate Change Minister Bhupendra Yadav posted about this on X. He said that Namibian cheetah Asha has given birth to three cubs in Kuno National Park (KNP) located in Sheopur district of Madhya Pradesh. He termed this development as a big success of Project Tiger.

The Union Minister said in the post that my hearty congratulations to all the experts involved in the project, Kuno wildlife officers and wildlife lovers across India. He termed it ‘a major success for Project Cheetah envisioned by PM Modi to restore ecological balance’.

There are currently 14 adults and four cubs present in Kuno National Park. These include 7 male leopards Gaurav, Shaurya, Vayu, Agni, Pawan, Prabhash and Pavak, while 7 female leopards include Asha, Gamini, Nabha, Dheera, Jwala, Nirva and Veera. Of these, only two leopards are present in the open forest, which can be seen by the tourists coming for a tour, while all the remaining leopards are currently kept in big enclosures.

The country’s first cheetah safari is going to be built in Kuno National Park. Here, cheetah safari will be developed for tourists by including Kuno river area in Sesaipura. Its proposal was sent to the Central Zoo Authority of India, which has received approval before the Kuno Festival. Now work on this will be started soon. This project will cost around Rs 50 crore.

According to the park management, the cubs will be kept under the strict supervision of veterinary doctors for the next few months. The decision as to when to leave them in the enclosure is decided by a committee formed by the Central Government.

Before Asha, in March last year, a female cheetah named Jwala had given birth to 4 cubs, but within a few days, 3 of them died. At that time the Kuno Park management was in great disrepute. However, the fourth cub remained under the supervision of veterinary doctors for about 3 months and is now completely healthy.

Let us tell you that on PM Modi’s birthday on 17 September 2022, 8 leopards were brought from Namibia. He was released in Kuno. After this, 12 cheetahs were released here from South Africa in February 2023, but out of these, 6 adult cheetahs have died.
