Pakistan Airlines: A PIA spokesperson told Pakistani news outlet The Dawn that the flights were canceled due to limited fuel supply and operational issues for daily flights. The spokesperson said that the departure schedule of some flights has been rescheduled.

Amid claims of Pakistan’s economically poor condition, a crisis of fuel availability seems to be emerging in the country. Especially the country’s failing national airline Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) is being affected by this. As a result PIA flights are being cancelled. Due to non-availability of fuel, 48 flights including both domestic and international routes have been cancelled.

A PIA spokesperson told Pakistani news outlet The Dawn that the flights were canceled due to limited fuel supply and operational issues for daily flights. The spokesperson said that the departure schedule of some flights has been rescheduled.

The spokesperson said 13 domestic flights and 11 of them on international routes were canceled due to non-availability of fuel. He said that 12 other flights were delayed.

According to PIA, passengers on canceled flights were shifted to alternative flights. It advised passengers to contact PIA customer care, PIA offices or their travel agent before reaching the airport to check the status of their flight following this decision.

For Wednesday (today), PIA canceled more than a dozen flights, including 16 international and 8 domestic flights, while some flights were expected to be delayed.

The airline requires Rs 100 million per day for fuel payment from Pakistan State Oil (PSO), but PSO has been demanding only advance cash payment. PIA is unable to meet this requirement, which is likely to lead to more flight cancellations in the future.
