Flight Canceled Today: The Karnataka bandh called by ‘Kannada Okkoota’ got full support from the people of Bengaluru and southern areas of the state. Public life was affected due to the bandh. This has also affected the passengers flying from Bengaluru Airport.

The Karnataka bandh declared to protest against release of water to Tamil Nadu has affected passengers taking off from the Kempegowda International Airport in Bengaluru. Due to the bandh, 44 flights to and from Bengaluru have been cancelled. These flights have been canceled due to lack of passengers. Of these, 22 flights were scheduled to arrive in Bengaluru and 22 were scheduled to depart from here. Due to the bandh, people did not come to Bengaluru due to which the Kempegowda International Airport remained vacant.

Why is Karnataka being shut down?

Authorities have imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) in Bengaluru city, Mandya, Mysuru, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagara and Hassan districts. Also, holiday has been declared for the schools and colleges there. ‘Kannada Okkoota’ is a parent organization of Kannada and farmer organizations. A bandh was called in Bengaluru on Tuesday also over the river water dispute. Most shops, business establishments and eateries remained closed in Cauvery basin districts like Mandya. Private vehicles also remained off the roads in those areas. Very few number of government buses ran.

Protestors burn effigy of Karnataka CM

The bandh had a mixed effect in other parts of the state. The protesters also burnt the effigy of state Chief Minister MK Stalin in Chitradurga. Kannada film industry has also supported the bandh. ‘Karnataka Film Exhibitors Association’ has supported the bandh. At the same time, evening shows in theaters across the state have been cancelled. Most of the information technology companies and other companies in Bengaluru have asked their employees to work from home. ‘Auto Rickshaw Drivers Union’ and ‘Ola Uber Drivers and Owners Association’ have also supported the bandh.
