DGCA SoPs for Delayed Flights: Due to poor visibility in Delhi, around 600 flights have been delayed and 76 flights have been cancelled. DGCA has now issued SOP for all airlines in case of delay in flights.
DGCA SoPs for Delayed Flights: There is dense fog in North India including the national capital Delhi NCR. Nearly 600 flights have been delayed and 76 flights have been canceled due to dense fog and poor visibility. Due to this, passengers are facing huge chaos in the last two days at many international airports including Delhi’s Indira Gandhi Airport. DGCA has now issued SOP for all airlines in case of delay in flights. It is mandatory for all airlines to follow and ensure this SoP.
Information will have to be given through email, WhatsApp, flights can be canceled after three hours delay.
DGCA Director AED Amit Gupta said in his order that in case of delay in flights, airlines companies will have to inform the passengers about the actual delay through email, WhatsApp, SMS and website. It will be mandatory to provide information to the passengers waiting at the airport through announcement and display boards. Also, such flights which are likely to be delayed by more than 3 hours will have to be canceled so that there is no congestion in the airport and waiting area.
Staff will have to be given training, SoP will not be applicable in these circumstances
DGCA has asked all airlines to sensitize employees at airports. Besides, orders have also been given to provide all possible training to the staff to provide complete information and necessary assistance to the people. However, in the event of force majeure i.e. extraordinary circumstances beyond the control of the airline, these provisions will not apply. According to sources of news agency IANS, the main reason for the chaos at Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport is the limited operational capacity of the airport’s runway.
Only one runway of Delhi airport is equipped with CAT-3, on which operations are possible in low visibility. The second runway, 28/10, is temporarily not in use due to re-carpeting. This has led to heavy reliance on a single runway, 29/11. This is the only runway left on which flight movement is possible even when visibility is less than 200 meters. Arrivals and departures were delayed due to runway constraints. ILS (Instrument Landing System) CAT-3 is an advanced technology that enables the aircraft to land even in low visibility.
