Due to the preparations for Republic Day, flights will be banned for about two and a half hours on Sunday in Delhi. This ban has been imposed for the practice of Air Force fighter planes. During this time, no airline’s plane will be allowed to land or depart. All airlines have rescheduled their flights.
Flight Stop: Due to the implementation of NOTAM, the movement of passenger planes in the skies of Delhi was disrupted for about two and a half hours on Sunday. During this period, no plane of any airline was allowed to land or depart. This kind of restriction will continue till Republic Day i.e. 26 January.
All airlines were informed about this restriction issued under NOTAM (Notice to Airmen) a few days ago, so that they can reschedule their flights in some other period instead of the restricted period. All airlines had rescheduled their flights in view of this. About 50 flights were rescheduled. Passengers were also informed about the rescheduled time in advance.
Why NOTAM is issued
On Republic Day, people on duty are very interested in watching the stunts of the Air Force’s fighter planes. For this stunt, the pilot of the aircraft needs strict and regular practice. Keeping this in mind, pilots are given about two and a half hours of time so that they can practice according to their role. During this time, they have to adjust the flight path, altitude, speed etc.
During some stunts, a fleet of several aircrafts fly together in the air, for this also all the pilots practice regularly and coordinate with each other. To avoid any problems during this exercise, all types of flight related activities in the sky are stopped. The order related to this is called NOTAM. Currently NOTAM has been issued for the period between 10.20 am to 12.45 pm.
