Milkha Singh was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on June 3, then shifted to Chandigarh hospital two days ago after the situation worsened.
Milkha Singh, the country’s first track and field superstar and a big name in the Indian sports world, is no more. He died at the age of 91 in a hospital in Chandigarh due to coronavirus infection. Milkha Singh died late on Friday 18 June. He was shifted to the Kovid Intensive Care Unit of the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research, Chandigarh, after his health deteriorated two days ago.
Milkha Singh’s family was informed about his death by issuing a statement late on Friday night. The release issued by the family said, “It is with great sadness that it has to be informed that Milkha Singh ji died at 11.30 pm on Friday, June 18, 2021.”
In this statement it is said, “He struggled a lot but God had something else approved. Perhaps it was his true love that within 5 days of the death of our mother Nirmala ji, father Milkha Singh also died. ”
Milkha Singh started having problem of oxygen after coronavirus infection. 91-year-old Milkha Singh had come negative due to coronavirus infection only last Wednesday.
Milkha Singh’s wife Nirmala Kaur, 85, also died in the same hospital in Chandigarh on Sunday. Kaur had been the captain of the country’s women’s volleyball team. He was admitted to Fortis Hospital in Mohali on June 3 after a few days at home due to coronavirus infection.
