What is the meaning of locking aadhar number?
Locking Aadhaar means locking the 12 digit Aadhaar number and using the 16 digit Virtual ID (VID) for all types of authentication. There are 2 ways to lock Aadhaar.
Lock this way through the website of UIDAI
For this first go to the website uidai.gov.in.
Then click on Aadhar Lock & Unlock Service under Aadhar Services.
Now click on Lock UID.
Now you have to enter the 12 digit Aadhaar Number (UID). Next, enter your full name as given in the Aadhar card. Also, enter the pincode.
After this you have to enter the security code (captcha code).
Now you have to click on Send OTP or Inter TOTP.
Your Aadhaar number will be locked as soon as you enter the One-Time Password (OTP) received on your mobile.
By following the same procedure, you can unlock the Aadhaar number.
How to do this via
SMS Lock Aadhar card holder must have a 16 digit VID number to lock the Aadhaar number through SMS. If a user does not have a VID, he can generate it through SMS service or the resident portal on the UIDAI website. Keep in mind that to generate Virtual ID (VID) through SMS, your mobile number must be registered in the database of UIDAI.
Step 1: SMS to 1947 for OTP from your registered mobile number. In this message, you have to enter the last 4 digits of your Aadhaar number. Suppose your aadhar number is 1567 6754 7654 then the message will be something like this- GETOTP7654.
Step 2: After sending the SMS from your side, UIDAI will send you a 6 digit OTP through SMS.
Step 3: Now you have to send another SMS, which will be something like- LOCKUID the last 4 digits of your Aadhar and 6 digits OTP number. UIDAI will lock your Aadhaar number once the SMS is sent. You will also get its confirmation message.
Follow this method to lock biometrics details in Aadhaar
First of all go to uidai.gov.in website.
Then click on Lock/Unlock Biometrics under Aadhaar Services.
A new page will open. There, after ticking you have to click on Lock/Unlock Biometrics.
Now you have to enter your 12 digit Aadhaar number or VID here.
After this you have to enter the captcha code. Now click on Send OTP or Enter TOTP.
By doing this your biometrics will be locked.
