International Migration Report: It has been informed in the International Migration Report that Indians are number one among the people who have acquired citizenship in rich countries. Canada has the highest number of citizenships.
International Migration Report Indians On Top: India, emerging as the strongest country on the world stage, is not only looking strong on the economic, social and strategic front, but the presence of Indians is increasing in developed countries around the world.
According to the report of Times of India, Indians are at the first position among the people getting citizenship in rich countries like America, Canada, Australia. According to the OEDC report 2023 released at the Paris International Migration Outlook, Indians are at the forefront of the international group of people acquiring citizenship in rich countries. OEDC stands for The Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. It is a group of 38 countries which includes rich and developed countries around the world.
Most Indians get citizenship in Canada
The special thing in this report is that even though there is a deadlock in diplomatic relations between Canada and India, there has been an increase of 174 percent in the case of granting citizenship to Indian citizens in 2022 as compared to the year 2021. According to the report, last year also the number of foreign citizens obtaining citizenship of OECD country had increased by more than 25 percent in the year 2022 as compared to 28 lakh in the year 2021. Since 2019, India has been continuously at the first position among those who have acquired citizenship in these countries around the world.
1.3 lakh Indians acquired citizenship of OECD countries in 2021
The report mentions that in 2021, about 1.3 lakh Indians acquired citizenship of an OECD member country, which was about 1.5 lakh in 2019. China finished fifth in this race in 2021. 57,000 Chinese citizens obtained citizenship of OECD country.
Indian citizenship is found the most in America
Among the 38 member countries of OECD, America has given citizenship to the most number of Indian citizens. Here, 56,000 Indians have got permanent residence, while at second place, 24,000 Indians have got permanent citizenship in Australia and despite the diplomatic deadlock, 21,000 Indian citizens have got permanent citizenship in Canada. Let us tell you that in the last five years, the number of Indians taking citizenship in foreign countries has increased rapidly.
