Will happen. The new free wages limit came into effect from Thursday.
Tata Group-owned airline Air India has changed its free baggage policy. Air India has reduced the maximum free baggage allowance for its lowest fare class as part of several initiatives by the Tata Group to bring the airline running at a loss of more than Rs 50,000 crore back on track. Air India has reduced the maximum free baggage allowance from 20 kg to 15 kg.
Notification issued information
The airline issued a notification to travel agents saying, passengers flying in ‘Economy Comfort’ and ‘Comfort Plus’ fare categories on Air India will be allowed to carry check-in baggage of 15 kg. The new free wages limit came into effect from Thursday.
Tata acquired in 2022
Let us tell you that Tata Group had bought Air India in the year 2022. Before privatisation, the airline used to offer free baggage allowance of 25 kg, which was reduced to 20 kg last year. Now the free baggage limit of Air India has become at par with other airlines. However, unlike other low-budget airlines like IndiGo, which allow passengers to carry one bag, Air India will allow its passengers to carry multiple bags. At the same time, civil aviation regulator DGCA orders that airlines should allow passengers to carry a minimum 15 kg free check-in bag.
Passengers paying higher fare will be able to carry more luggage
Air India will allow passengers paying higher fares under ‘Economy Flex’ to carry 25 kg of hand luggage and will also provide them other facilities like no-change fees on their tickets.
Air India said this
An Air India spokesperson said the fare difference between ‘Comfort Plus’ and ‘Flex’ will be around ₹1,000 on routes like Delhi-Mumbai, but there will be 10 kg excess baggage, zero change or cancellation fees, more loyalty points and free choice. The provided value of better option of seats is around Rs 9,000. Let us tell you that last year Tata had launched several fare brackets to reduce the losses of the airline.
This much charge will have to be paid for overloading
Let us tell you that Air India charges excess baggage fee of Rs 600 per kg for passengers, which includes GST fee. Passengers can take 10 kg of hand luggage with them on the plane, but if their carry-on exceeds this, they will have to combine it with the check-in baggage.
