Free electricity available in the capital Delhi will continue for now. Minister Atishi of Arvind Kejriwal government said that a decision has been taken in the cabinet meeting on the free electricity bill and electricity subsidy i.e. free electricity will continue till March 2025.
The facility of free electricity provided to the consumers of Delhi will continue till March 2025. Kejriwal government has once again accused the officers of stopping Delhi’s free electricity subsidy scheme. On Thursday, an emergency cabinet meeting was held at the residence of Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in which the electricity subsidy scheme was passed till March 31, 2025.

After the meeting, Arvind Kejriwal posted on social media X and wrote, ‘I congratulate the people of Delhi very much. Your 24 hours electricity (zero power cut) and free electricity has been extended till 31 March 2025. This also includes free electricity for the lawyers’ chambers. Many people had doubts about electricity subsidy – will it be available next year or not? Let me tell you that these people tried their best to stop it. But your son got this work done also. For your information, let me tell you that 24 hours electricity and free electricity is available only in Delhi and Punjab. In the rest of the country, there are long power cuts and electricity bills worth thousands of rupees have to be paid. Because there is a government of honest and educated people in Delhi.
Atishi accused the center
Speaking to the media outside the Chief Minister’s residence after the cabinet meeting, Atishi said, ‘Providing 24 hours more free electricity in Delhi is a big promise of the Arvind Kejriwal government, which the Aam Aadmi Party government has been fulfilling for the last 9 years. Delhi is the only state where electricity is available 24 hours a day and 22 lakh people have zero electricity bill. There is no policy of Arvind Kejriwal government which the opponents do not try to stop. Whenever Arvind Kejriwal wants to do any work for the people of Delhi, our opponents make every effort to stop Arvind Kejriwal’s work.
Atishi further said that last year also an attempt was made by the opponents to stop the electricity subsidy. There came a time when it had to be announced that from today onwards zero electricity bill will end. This year also, for the last one month, the opponents have made every effort to ensure that the electricity bill of the people of Delhi does not come to zero for the coming year 2024-25 and the subsidy scheme of the Kejriwal government is stopped.
Atishi said, ‘The protesters called the officer and threatened him to stop the zero electricity bills of Delhiites. But when Arvind Kejriwal makes a promise to the people of Delhi, no matter how many challenges come his way, he definitely fulfills it. Today in the cabinet meeting of Kejriwal government, it was decided that the people of Delhi will continue to get free electricity bills and electricity subsidy. The cabinet has decided to continue the free electricity subsidy scheme in the year 2024-25 also.
This is the formula for free electricity
Atishi told that electricity up to 200 units will be free, electricity bill will be half up to 400 units, Delhi’s lawyers, farmers and 1984 riot victims will continue to get free electricity subsidy this year too like last year. Delhiites will continue to have zero electricity bills. The free electricity subsidy scheme of Kejriwal government has been passed till 31 March 2025.
Atashi further said that our opponents have adopted a new method to stop the work. Now they threaten the officers that if you work with the Kejriwal government or implement its policies, they will set up a vigilance inquiry or suspend you, or put you in jail, or file a case with ED and CBI. Earlier they used to attack us openly but now they do not attack us openly, rather they try to stop the work through officers.
Budget of more than three thousand crores for energy department
Let us tell you that on March 4, Finance Minister Atishi in the Kejriwal government has proposed a budget of Rs 3353 crore for the Energy Department in this financial year. There are 58 lakh 86 thousand domestic electricity consumers in Delhi and 68.33% of these consumers are taking benefit of subsidy. While presenting the budget, Finance Minister Atishi also informed that in the year 2023, zero electricity bills were issued to about 3 crore 40 lakh consumers.
According to the data provided by Delhi Government, at present 40 lakh 22 thousand domestic electricity consumers are getting the benefit of electricity subsidy of Delhi Government. Atishi has announced the continuation of this subsidy scheme in the budget. Let us tell you that the Aam Aadmi Party government had presented its tenth budget on March 4. This was the last budget of the Aam Aadmi Party government before the Delhi Assembly elections to be held next year.
