PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme: The number of beneficiaries under the PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme is increasing. If we look at the government figures, till March 10, more than 10 lakh people had installed solar panels in their homes.

Free Electricity Scheme: Under the Pradhan Mantri Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna (PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna), the number of rooftop installations is increasing continuously and according to the information given by the government, it has crossed 10 lakhs so far. It is clear that solar panels have been installed on the roofs of more than 10 lakh houses in the country. It is worth noting that in this government scheme, the central government gives free electricity up to 300 units as well as huge subsidy.

10 lakh solar panels by March 10

According to the information shared by the government, the world’s largest domestic rooftop solar initiative PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojna or PMSGMBY has achieved a historic feat by running 10 lakh houses on solar energy by March 10, 2025. Let us tell you that under this government scheme launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on 13 February 2024, a target has been set to install solar panels on the roofs of 1 crore houses by the year 2027.

While on the one hand this scheme of the Modi government has made good progress in many states and especially Chandigarh and Daman and Diu have equipped 100 percent of their government buildings with rooftop solar panels, on the other hand, in states like Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Gujarat and Tamil Nadu, this scheme is becoming increasingly popular and people are taking advantage of it.

So far, subsidy of ₹4770Cr has been given

Under the PM Surya Ghar Free Bijli Scheme, the government had announced an investment of Rs 75,000 crore. In this, a provision was made to provide free electricity up to 300 units along with subsidy to those who install solar panels on the roof of their houses, which makes it popular. If we look at the government data, with 47.3 lakh applications received so far, this initiative has already distributed subsidy of Rs 4,770 crore to 6.13 lakh beneficiaries.

Free electricity up to 300 units, no hassle of bill

The main objective of this scheme of Modi government is to provide free electricity up to 300 units to the beneficiaries. Under this scheme, solar panels are installed on the roof of the house, on which the government gives subsidy on the cost. This not only ends the hassle of electricity bill, but you can also produce more electricity and sell it. If we talk about the cost of installing solar panels as per the scheme, then the cost for 1 kilowatt can be around 90 thousand rupees, for 2 kilowatt it can be around 1.5 lakh rupees and for 3 kilowatt it can be up to 2 lakh rupees.

How much subsidy can be availed?

On installing Solar Rooftop, the government transfers money directly to the bank account. This reduces the burden of installing solar panels. The government provides subsidy of Rs 30,000 per kilowatt up to 2 kilowatts, Rs 48,000 per kilowatt up to 3 kilowatts and Rs 78,000 per kilowatt for more than 3 kilowatts.

Just a few days after the launch of this scheme, the government gave an update that preparations are being made to change the rules related to it and under this, people applying under PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme can get subsidy (Free Bijli Scheme Subsidy) within just 7 days.
