PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has today launched the rooftop solar energy scheme for free electricity. PM Modi has named this scheme ‘PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme’. Let us know how different this scheme is from other rooftop solar schemes of Modi government. The central government’s over Rs 75,000 crore project aims to provide up to 300 units of free electricity every month as well as illuminate 1 crore homes.
According to PM Modi, ‘Under this scheme, the actual subsidy will be given directly into the bank accounts of the people. Besides, heavily concessional bank loans will also be provided. The central government will ensure that there is no cost burden on the people. All stakeholders will be linked to a national online portal which will provide further convenience. To popularize the scheme at the grassroots level, urban local bodies and panchayats will be encouraged to promote rooftop solar systems in their jurisdiction.

To install rooftop solar system, you can also apply by visiting the official website of Government of India https://solarrooftop.gov.in. After visiting this website, you will have to click on the Apply for rooftop solar icon on the top left side. To avail the benefits of this scheme, you will have to provide information in 6 steps. Like- which state are you a resident of, which electricity company are you a consumer, what is the consumer number, mobile number linked to Aadhaar, email ID etc.
This work has to be done first
To install rooftop solar system, go to the official website of Government of India https://solarrooftop.gov.in
Step 1: Register in the portal with the following
- Select your State
- Select your Electricity Distribution Company
- Enter your Electricity Consumer Number
- Enter Mobile Number
- Enter Email
- Please follow as per the direction from the portal
Step 2
- Login with Consumer Number & Mobile Number
- Apply for the Rooftop Solar as per the form
Step 3: Wait for the feasibility approval from DISCOM. Once you get the feasibility approval install the plant by any of the registered vendors in your DISCOM
Step 4: Once installation is over , submit the plant details and apply for net meter
Step 5: After installation of net meter and inspection by DISCOM, they will generate commissioning certificate from portal
Step 6: Once you get the commissioning report. Submit the bank account details and a cancelled cheque through the portal. You will receive your subsidy in your bank account within 30 days.
