Free Electricity Update: Big news for those who avail 300 units of free electricity

Free Electricity Update: Officials said that under the guise of free electricity scheme, many electricity consumers using more than 300 units are not paying their bills, which is becoming a source of trouble for the Powercom.

Free Electricity Update: There has been a huge reduction in complaints of power outages with the onset of winter. Due to this, the departmental officials are feeling relieved from uninterrupted power supply and are focusing on other tasks. Under this series, the meters installed incorrectly are being checked and action has been taken to remove the meters of those violating the rules.

After the Punjab government launched the 300 unit free electricity scheme, there has been a huge increase in new connections. There was competition in every sector for installing meters incorrectly and an attempt was made to get double the benefit of the free electricity scheme by installing 2 meters in a house.

With the installation of new meters, the demand for electricity broke records and the burden of subsidy on the government increased. Due to new connections, the demand for electricity increased so much that the Powercom management had to face many problems. Due to this, Powercom has decided to take action against the meters installed incorrectly so that the department can get relief in the future.

On the one hand, taking action against incorrectly installed meters will benefit the Powercom, on the other hand, the government will save crores of rupees every month. For this reason, Powercom is starting a checking campaign, under which the meters of those who have installed meters incorrectly are being removed. Along with this, keeping in mind the winter season, the department has started improving the electricity system and is focusing on pending works including changing wires, updating transformers. This will reduce electricity complaints in the coming summer season and consumers will get a big relief.

In every area, hundreds of connections are running with 4-5 kW load on 1-2 kW stationary load. Due to such connections, the department is not able to know the exact load used in the area due to which the transformers get overloaded. Transformers are installed in the concerned area only as per the load of the meters issued by the department. But the electricity consumers of the concerned transformers use many times more electricity than the traction load.

Due to this, problems start arising. Officials say that the transformer did not take much load and the fuse blew. The department has planned to tighten the noose on such consumers. Officials say that consumers who use more than the permitted load should increase their load, otherwise they will be fined in the departmental investigation.

Officials said that under the guise of free electricity scheme, many electricity consumers using more than 300 units are not paying their bills, which is becoming a problem for Powercom. Due to this, many connections have been disconnected for the last few days and action is being taken against those who have not paid the dues. Officials say that the bills of those who have not paid are continuously pending and the amount is increasing, it will be recovered as soon as possible.

Chief Engineer of North Zone Ramesh Lal Sarangal said that the complaints have reduced due to which the department is paying attention to the pending works. Action will be taken against those who have taken wrong connections by going against the rules. Similarly, attention will be paid to recovery from defaulters and increasing the load.
