Girl Fee Waiver: In Maharashtra, Shinde government has announced to waive the educational fees of girls from families with income of Rs 8 lakh or less.

Girl Fee Waiver: As the Lok Sabha elections approach, the Eknath Shinde government in Maharashtra has taken a big decision. Shinde government has announced to waive the educational fees of girls from families with income of Rs 8 lakh or less in Maharashtra. Now the Maharashtra government will take the responsibility of paying the fees of the girls of these families. The Maharashtra government hopes that this step will increase girls’ participation in higher education.

According to the Indian Express report, Maharashtra Higher and Technical Education Minister Chandrakant Patil announced this during the Joint Board of Vice-Chancellors (JBVC) meeting on Friday. At present, 50 percent rebate in educational fees is given in this category, which has now been increased to 100 percent.

“Universities should work towards ensuring that more girls take admission in higher education courses in various fields,” Patil said. Patil directed the Vice-Chancellors to conduct special drives for the same along with stressing on the importance of declaring the results on time.

Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais also urged all the vice-chancellors to declare the results on time. “It is important to ensure that students do not miss their academic year or job opportunities due to delay in results,” he said. Last year also the Governor had reprimanded the universities for delaying the results. He had said that the Vice Chancellors would be held responsible for the delay in declaring the results and releasing the mark sheets.
