The government has implemented the third phase of hallmarking in gold jewelery from September 8, 2023. What is Hallmarking?
The government has made hallmarking of gold jewelery mandatory from July 1, 2023. In such a situation, now when buying any kind of gold, it is necessary to have Hallmark Unique Identification (HUID) number on it. Through hallmarking it is known what is the purity of gold. Every hallmarked jewelery has a 6 digit HUID i.e. Hallmark Unique Identification Digit. Through this digit, you can check the purity of gold online through BIS Care App.
How to check purity of gold through BIS Care App-
- If you want to check the purity of your gold, you can check it through BIS Care app.
- For this, first go to Google Play Store and download the app.
- Here you can choose Hindi or English language as per your need.
- After this you go to the option of Check License Details and select the option of Verify HUID.
- After this, enter the HUID number here and you will get all the details related to the jewelery within a few minutes.
How much will be charged for hallmarking?
According to the report published in Economic Times, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) has issued a notification on March 4, 2022, increasing the fee for hallmarking in gold jewelery from Rs 35 to Rs 45. At the same time, the price of hallmarking of silver jewelery has been increased from Rs 25 to Rs 35. At the same time, service charge of Rs 200 will be taken in gold jewelery and Rs 150 as service charge in silver jewellery.
