Electricity Consumers: U.P. On the public interest proposal submitted by the State Electricity Consumers Advisory Committee, Energy Minister Shrikant Sharma has instructed 60 million power consumers to pay interest on their deposit security.

Consumer Council President Awadhesh Kumar Verma has given this information. He has said that on his proposal, the Power Minister has instructed the Chairman of Power to take action for payment of interest. He has told that the deposit security of about 60 lakh power consumers of the state has zero feed in the billing system for more than five years. Due to which these consumers are not getting interest on the deposit security, whereas according to the Electricity Act-2003, there is a provision to pay interest on their deposit security every year.
