New Delhi. LPG consumers may soon get the facility to change their service providers. This will be similar to how mobile phone numbers are ported. Three people related to this matter gave this information. The central government is also working on providing porting facility to the domestic gas supply business of public fuel marketing companies. Under the scheme, Indian Oil Corporation Ltd. The LPG connection of Hindustan Petroleum Corp Ltd. and Bharat Petroleum Corp Ltd. Or their connections can be transferred to Indian Oil Corp.
According to the report of the English newspaper Mint, the three fuel marketing companies are jointly developing a software to bring their entire LPG business on a single platform. There were 29.11 crore LPG consumers in the country as on 1st July and with the launch of this service, they will get a lot of convenience. Presently LPG companies allow their customers to choose the LPG distributor and transfer the connection online to any other distributor operating in the same area within their own network.
A senior official said that a common database is being created for LPG connection portability. Currently, if a consumer wants to change his service provider, he has to first surrender his connection physically and then go to another retailer’s LPG distributor to get the connection. This is a very long and time consuming process.
Another official said that at present the portability facility is available only within the company’s distributor network, where customers can port their connection from one dealer to another.
But after the implementation of the new scheme, portability between companies will also start. A third official said that the tender has been floated to ease portability among oil marketing companies. It is likely to be launched in the current financial year.
Earlier, oil marketing companies on Wednesday increased the price of non-subsidized 14.2 kg LPG cylinder by Rs 25. From September 1, the price of LPG LPG cylinder in Delhi has gone up to Rs 884.50.
