Actually, the bank is giving this facility to the account holders of Jan Dhan Accounts. SBI offers free accidental insurance cover of up to Rs 2 lakh to customers who have RuPay debit cards. Those using RuPay Debit Card get death insurance, purchase protection cover and other benefits. Jan Dhan Account account holders can avail free insurance.

This scheme ensures access to financial services, banking savings and deposit accounts, credit, insurance, pension to the economically weaker sections in an affordable manner. Any person can open Jan Dhan account online by providing Know Your Customer (KYC) document.

There is also an option to transfer Basic Savings Account to Jan Dhan Yojana Account. Those who have Jan Dhan Accouts, they get RuPay PMJDY card from the bank. The sum insured for RuPay PMJDY cards issued on Jan Dhan accounts opened up to 28 August 2018 will be Rs 1 lakh. Accidental cover benefit of up to Rs 2 lakh will be available on RuPay cards issued after August 28, 2018.

The claim will be paid in Indian Rupees as per the sum insured on submission of required documents. The beneficiary can become a nominee in the account of the cardholder or legal heir as per the order of the court.
