But do you know that petroleum companies also provide personal accident cover to the customer. That is, if you have an accident related to a gas cylinder, then you get the benefit of insurance of Rs 50 lakh.
According to the rules of petroleum companies, if the accident occurs due to gas leakage or blast, then you can get the benefit of this facility. Petroleum companies have partnerships with insurance companies for this insurance. Currently, insurance on Hindustan Petroleum, Indian Oil, Bharat Petroleum’s LPG connection is through ICICI Lombard.
What is the process of getting a claim
- The way to take a claim after the accident is given on the official website MyLPG.in ( http://mylpg.in ). According to the website, if the customer gets an LPG connection, if the person gets an accident from his cylinder, then the person is entitled to insurance up to Rs 50 lakh.
- According to the rule, the maximum compensation up to Rs 50 lakh can be obtained in case of an accident. Each person suffering from the accident can be given a maximum compensation of Rs 10 lakh.
- To get the insurance cover on LPG cylinders, it is necessary that the customer should immediately inform the accident to the nearest police station. Also inform your LPG distributor.
- The distributors of Indian Oil, HPC and BPC have to take insurance policy for accidents including third party insurance cover for individuals and properties.
- These are not in the name of an individual customer, but every customer is covered in this policy. He does not have to pay any premium for this.
- To take advantage of insurance, it is necessary that the customer should keep a copy of the FIR lodged with the police, prescription and medical bills for treatment of the injured and postmortem report, death certificate in case of death.
- In case of accident, compensation is claimed on behalf of the distributor. The insurance company deposits the claim amount with the respective distributor and from here it reaches the customer.
This is departmental process
When you register an FIR for the incident and inform the distributor, the concerned Area Office investigates the cause of the accident. If the accident is a LPG accident, then the LPG distributor agency / area office will inform the insurance company’s local office. This is followed by a claim file with the concerned insurance company. The customer does not have to apply or contact the insurance company directly for the claim.
These documents are needed
In case of any death in an LPG accident, the petroleum company of LPG cylinder has to submit the original copy of the death certificate and post mortem report of the deceased.
