Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented the General Budget on Monday. Many public welfare schemes were announced in the budget. Announcements were also made for Tamil Nadu and Kerala in the budget. In view of Tamil Nadu has a long wide coastline, the Finance Minister announced some special gifts. Recognizing the potential in sea grass cultivation in this sequence, the Finance Minister said that it is an emerging area, which has the potential to change the lives of people of coastal communities.

The Finance Minister said that 5 major fishing centers – Kochi, Chennai, Visakhapatnam, Paradip, and Petuaghat – will be developed as economic activity centers. He also proposed to develop fishing centers in the water sector and fishing centers in the river banks and water areas. Sea grass can provide fuel as well as food in future, so the government has insisted on growing it.
Use of sea grass
Sea grass is also called seaweed. It needs to be processed immediately after being removed from the sea. This grass can also be grown in small plants made at home, on which the government is insisting. This grass is cleaned from the plant after harvesting and harvesting. This grass is then dried and sent to the food manufacturer. The remaining part of the grass is used for animal feed. Good earnings can be made by selling this feed. This animal feed contains a large amount of nutrients which increases the milk of animals.
Sea grass is used to make medicines, in this work we use grass extracts. Along with this grass is also used on a large scale in toothpaste, cosmetic, medicines and pet food. In the coming times, sea grass can be used as an alternative to textiles and plastics. In view of this, the demand for this grass will increase, so the government is giving special emphasis on its production. The worldwide trade of sea grass is more than 6 billion dollars, but it is very low in the countries of Asia including India. The government is thinking about accelerating the production of grasses by raising funds in this area.
Plant to be set up in Tamil Nadu
Currently seaweed is being used mostly in food, but in the coming times it can be used for fish grains, fertilizers and biogas. In the coming time, its production will increase and the coastal area of India is very large, which will benefit on a large scale. It is cultivated by machines abroad but it has not started in India.
After getting government help, this work is likely to accelerate. For this, big plants will be built in which water will be supplied continuously. There will be a huge consumption of electricity in it. Right now its practice is negligible in India, but the government has announced to take steps in this direction. To promote sea grass cultivation, Sitharaman has announced to develop a multi-purpose seagrass park in Tamil Nadu.
Part of the blue economy
