Google Play Movies and TV will no longer be available from January 17, 2024

Google will no longer make Google Play Movies & TV available on Android TV devices or the Google Play website. The company said in the latest update, people will still be able to access previously purchased titles (including active rentals) on Android TV devices, Google TV devices, Google TV mobile apps (Android and iOS), and YouTube.

Google has already moved Android and iOS users to the Google TV app, having removed the app from Android TV in October.

“We’re making some changes to make it easier for you to access the movies and TV shows you buy new or buy through Google,” the company said. The tech giant has been steering users away from Google Play Movies & TV for a long time. Starting January 17, 2024, the Shop tab will be your new home for viewing previously purchased titles, or buying and renting new movies on Android TV.
“You’ll find purchased titles, including active rentals, in your Library row on the Shop tab,” Google said.

Starting January 17, the YouTube app will be your new home to watch previously purchased titles, or buy and rent new movies from Google.

You will be able to access titles purchased from Google, including active rentals, on the YouTube app.

YouTube will be the new home for people to watch previously purchased titles, or buy and rent new movies on the web browser, Google said.
