Big action against SIM card users taken on fake documents

1.77 crore mobile connections purchased with fake or forged documents are being blocked with the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) based tools. Apart from this, four telecom service operators (TSP) working with the Department of Telecommunications (DOT) have blocked 45 lakh fake international calls from reaching the Indian telecom network.

11 lakh accounts frozen

The Ministry of Communications said in a statement that banks and payment wallets have frozen about 11 lakh accounts that were taken on fake documents. The government says that the rest of such SIM cards will be blocked in the coming days. Action taken on fake international call

  • To deal with the growing threat of fraudulent international calls, DoT has introduced a new system to identify and block these calls before they reach Indian users. This system is being rolled out in two phases.
  • Under the first phase, those calls are being blocked which are making false marketing calls and messages.
  • Under the second phase, fake calls from numbers of any Indian telecom operator will be blocked. This will be done at a central, nationwide level.

71 thousand sim agents banned

  • According to the report, 77.61 lakh mobile connections exceeding the limit of SIM card issued per person have been disconnected.
  • 2.29 lakh mobile phones involved in cyber crime or fraud have been blocked.
  • 12.02 lakh out of 21.03 lakh stolen or lost mobile phones have been traced.
  • 20,000 units, 32,000 SMS headers and 2 lakh SMS templates involved in sending malicious SMS have been disconnected.
  • 11 lakh bank accounts and payment wallets linked to disconnected mobile connections have been frozen.
  • About 11 lakh WhatsApp accounts linked to disconnected connections have been closed.
  • 71,000 Point of Sale (SIM agents) have been blacklisted.
  • 365 FIRs have been registered in various states and union territories in the case of fake SIM cards.

How many SIM cards are registered with your Aadhaar card?

  • The Department of Telecommunications had released a portal through which you can find out how many SIMs are running in your name.
  • For this, you will first have to go to tafcop.sancharsaathi.gov.in.
  • Here you will have to enter your mobile number.
  • After this you will get an OTP. Enter it.
  • Then all the information will come in front of you about how many numbers are linked to your ID.

  • Go to Sanchar Sathi portal or sancharsaathi.gov.in and click.
