PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana: This scheme will be implemented at the national level by the National Program Implementation Agency (NPIA) and at the state level by the State Implementation Agencies (SIAs). Under the scheme, DISCOMs will have to take several facilitating measures to promote rooftop solar in their respective areas

The Union Finance Ministry said that schemes like PM Surya Ghar Free Electricity Scheme are encouraging common citizens and their families. The Government of India has approved the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Free Electricity Scheme’ on February 29, 2024 to increase the share of solar rooftop capacity and empower households to generate their own electricity. The scheme has an outlay of Rs 75,021 crore and is to be implemented by the financial year 2026-27.

The scheme will be implemented by the National Program Implementation Agency (NPIA) at the national level and by the State Implementation Agencies (SIAs) at the state level. Under the scheme, DISCOMs will have to take several facilitating measures to promote rooftop solar in their respective areas, such as availability of net meters, timely inspection and commissioning of installations, vendor registration and management, measures to solarize government buildings.

What is PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

– Solar panels will be installed on the roof of the house.

– Up to 300 units of electricity will be available.

– The cost of installing the panel will be subsidized by the government.

How does PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana work?

Under the scheme, 60% subsidy will be available for installing solar units up to 2kW. For systems of 2kW to 3kW, 40 percent of the additional system cost will be subsidized. However, the subsidy has been limited to 3kW.

According to the current benchmark prices, this means a subsidy of Rs 30,000 for a 1kW system, Rs 60,000 for a 2kW system and Rs 78,000 for a 3kW or more system. There will also be subsidy from the state government.

For example, if you get a one kilowatt connection installed, then you will have to spend Rs 65,000. In this, Rs 3000 will be subsidized by the central government and Rs 15,000 by the state government.

Who can apply for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

– The applicant must be an Indian citizen.

– There should be a house with a suitable roof for installing solar panels.

– The family must have a valid electricity connection.

– The family must not have availed any other subsidy for solar panels.

– Your annual income should not exceed 1.5 lakhs.

How to apply for PM Surya Ghar Muft Bijli Yojana?

– First of all, the consumer has to register on the national portal.

– Select your state and discom.

– You can get information like system size, benefit calculator, vendor rating.

– Can select the vendor and the design of the roof top solar unit they want to install.
