The central government on Thursday launched the PM Internship Scheme. The list of shortlisted candidates under the scheme will be available by October 26. Companies will make the final selection by November 27 and the internship will start from December 2, 2024 for 12 months.

With the aim of making the youth employable, the government on Thursday launched the Pradhan Mantri Internship Yojana on a pilot basis. Under the scheme, the youth selected for internship will get a monthly financial assistance of Rs 5,000. This scheme was proposed by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman in her budget speech.

Under the scheme, the youth will get an opportunity to do internship in India’s top 500 companies. The aim of this scheme is to provide internship opportunities to 1 crore youth in a period of five years.

Financial assistance of Rs 5,000 will be given every month

Apart from this, they will be given a one-time assistance of Rs 6,000 for joining the internship and after that financial assistance of Rs 5,000 will be given every month for one year. The internship will be for 12 months. Government sources said that there is a plan to provide 1.25 lakh internship opportunities in the current financial year. It is estimated to cost Rs 800 crore.

In fact, many companies have started showing interest in this scheme, a few days ago travel booking platform EaseMyTrip announced that it plans to hire more than 500 interns across India in the next 3-6 months to support the government’s proposed internship scheme.

Lots of offers, portal will be active from October 12

  • Companies will give information about their needs and internship posts by October 10. Interested youth will be able to register on the portal www.pminternship.mca.gov.in from midnight of October 12. The list of shortlisted candidates will be given to the companies by October 26.
  • Although the portal has been started on a pilot basis right now, the government has chosen the auspicious day of Vijayadashami to open the portal for intern applications.
  • So far 111 companies have joined it and these include the states of Maharashtra, Uttarakhand, Telangana and Gujarat.
  • As of this morning, there are already 1077 offers on the website and companies have shared preferences for production-related and maintenance-related vacancies.
  • The list of shortlisted candidates will be available by October 26. Companies will make the final selection by November 27 and the internship will start from December 2, 2024 for 12 months.

The youth selected for internship will be given insurance cover under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. The premium for this will be paid by the government. Apart from this, companies can provide additional accident insurance to the selected candidate.

What are the rules related to the scheme?

To avail the benefits of the scheme, the youth will have to follow some criteria. Without this criteria, it is difficult to get the benefits of this scheme. Under this scheme, the age of the intern should be between 21 to 24 years. Also, the annual income of his family should not exceed Rs 8 lakh. Candidates currently pursuing formal degree courses or working will not be able to become a part of this internship scheme. However, these candidates can join online courses or vocational training.
