What is ABRY
According to sources, the ministry may extend the deadline of this scheme to increase the number of new jobs in the country amid the pandemic. The Union Cabinet had approved ABRY in December last year. Under this scheme, in addition to paying the mandatory provident fund contribution of the employees, the government also pays the employer’s contribution on new appointments for two years.
For whom is it beneficial
Under this scheme of expenditure of Rs 22,810 crore, the employees to be appointed from October 1, 2020 to June 30, 2021 will come. Sources said the ministry is in the process of issuing a cabinet proposal to extend the ABRY deadline from June 30, 2021 to March, 2022. Sources said that 21 lakh newly appointed employees have benefited from this scheme so far. This is much less than the government’s estimate of 58.5 lakh.
Government will fulfill the target
Sources said that in such a situation, the Labor Ministry wants to extend the deadline of the scheme till March next year. The allocation of funds for this scheme was done keeping in mind the number of 58.5 lakh beneficiaries.
Benefit will be available till 2023
During the pandemic, the government has taken several steps to increase job opportunities and provide relief to the employees. ABRY is one of these measures. Under this, the government has allocated Rs 22,810 crore for the entire period of implementation from 2020 to 2023.
