GPay new feature: Good news for users! Now create UPI account with Aadhaar, no need for ATM

Google Pay has launched a special feature for its users. With its help, users will now be able to create their own UPI account even without an ATM card. Google Pay said that instead of ATM card, users can now open UPI accounts by verifying their Aadhaar number. Google Pay’s rival company PhonePe also launched a similar service a few days ago. However, to create a UPI account through Aadhaar, it is necessary that the users’ bank account and phone number are also linked to their Aadhaar. If this does not happen then they will have to link their bank account with Aadhaar.

Google Pay said that its new features are available for account holders of about 22 banks. All these banks support the service of Aadhaar based OTP number verification for UPI. Google’s Product Management Director Sharat Bulusu said that these new features will help in making things simple and convenient for the users.

Bulusu said in a press statement, “In line with the government’s goal of financial inclusion, these features will further strengthen the goal of increasing the trend of digital payments in India. Digital payments have grown rapidly in the country in the last few years and these features Will further help in boosting the UPI ecosystem.”

How will this features work?

After installing the Google Pay app, users will now get two options to create a UPI account. First – through debit card, second – through Aadhaar. Google Pay said it will not store users’ Aadhaar numbers with them and will simply act as a method of verification.

Users opting for verification through Aadhaar will have to enter the first six digits of their Aadhaar number. Then they will get OTP from UIDAI and then from their bank, which they have to fill in the space provided. After this, their respective bank will complete the process and after that they can set their UPI PIN.
