Actually, all account holders of Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) can get the benefit of life insurance and accident cover. The government is considering providing insurance cover through Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima (PMSBY).
The Finance Ministry said in a statement that the government is planning to ensure coverage of PMJDY account holders under Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Bima Yojana (PMJJBY) and Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana (PMSBY).

The Finance Ministry in a statement said that after seven successful years of Pradhan Mantri Jan-Dhan Yojana (PMJDY), a financial inclusion scheme, the government is looking at providing life insurance and accident cover to over 430 million account holders. Let us tell you that Jan Dhan Yojana was announced by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in his Independence Day address on 15 August 2014. “Banks have already been informed about this,” the statement said. According to the website of the Department of Financial Services (DFS), PMJJBY offers life insurance of Rs 2 lakh for a premium of less than Re 1 per day. For this, an annual premium of Rs 330 has to be paid.

Two schemes were launched by the central government under the social-security campaign. One is Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana and the other Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana. Under the Pradhan Mantri Jeevan Jyoti Yojana, life insurance up to Rs 2 lakh is given. For this, an annual premium of Rs 330 has to be paid. In addition, under the Pradhan Mantri Suraksha Bima Yojana, a cover of up to Rs 2 lakh is given in the event of accidental death and total disability.
