The 54th meeting of the GST Council will be held in New Delhi on 9 September 2024. Issues like rationalizing GST rates and reducing tax slabs are expected to be discussed in this meeting.

New Delhi. The GST Council meeting chaired by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will be held on September 9. The Council wrote on its official handle on the social media platform ‘X’, “The 54th meeting of the GST Council will be held on September 9, 2024 in New Delhi.” The GST Council, consisting of finance ministers of the Center and the states, is the highest decision-making body regarding the Goods and Services Tax (GST). It has been working since July 1, 2017. The meeting is expected to discuss rationalizing the rates, reducing the tax ‘slab’, besides removing the inverted duty under GST.

These issues are likely to be discussed

-According to CNBC TV18, sources say that there is a possibility of giving information about the status update received by the Group of Ministers on rationalizing GST rates, the discussions held so far under the chairmanship of the previous group of ministers and the future strategy.

-According to sources, the GST Council can discuss the recent notice sent by DGGI to IT company Infosys and 10 foreign airline companies of the country.

-Apart from this, the GST Council can also consider some issues regarding changes in rates. At the same time, the issue of removing 18 percent GST on health and life insurance premiums is also likely to be discussed.

Let us tell you that the last council meeting was held on 23 June, after which Sitharaman had said that in the next meeting of the GST Council, the Group of Ministers (GOM) constituted on rationalization of rates under the leadership of Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sumant Chaudhary will give a presentation on the status of work and the aspects ‘covered’ by the committee and the pending work before the committee.
