GST officials arrest two more in ITC fraud of Rs 176 crore

The GST Intelligence Officers of the Magurugram unit have arrested two more persons in Input Tax Credit (ITC) fraud of Rs 176 crore. These include a chartered accountant and a dealer. The Finance Ministry gave this information on Wednesday.




The Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) Gurugram area unit had earlier busted a fake ITC racket worth Rs 176 crore. This ITC was allegedly given further by fraud by Sanjay Goel of M/s Redemption World and Deepak Sharma, the self-proclaimed owner of eight pseudo companies. Thereafter, Goyal and Sharma were arrested.

The ministry said that further investigation revealed the role of two more people, Manish Modi and Gaurav Agarwal. DGGI officials arrested Modi and Agarwal on August 23 for fraudulently giving forward ITC of Rs 36 crore and Rs 15 crore respectively. Among them, Modi is the CA and Agarwal is the dealer.
