GST return filing deadline: The central government extended the deadline for filing monthly GST sales return form GSTR-1 and GST payment by two days after taxpayers reported technical glitches in the GSTN system. According to a Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) notification, the last date for filing GSTR-1 for December is January 13, while for taxpayers opting for quarterly payments under the QRMP (Quarterly Returns with Monthly Payments) scheme for the October-December period, the date will be January 15.

Generally, the last date for filing GSTR-1 for monthly return filers is January 11, while for quarterly taxpayers it is January 13. The deadline for paying GST by filing GSTR-3B for December has been extended from the existing January 20 to January 22. For taxpayers paying GST on quarterly basis, the due date has been extended to January 24 and January 26 depending upon the state-wise registration of the business.
There were technical glitches in the system
Earlier in the day, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) had sent a report to the Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) on technical glitches in the system and requested to extend the date for filing GST sales return or GSTR-1.
GSTN wrote on the social media platform ‘X’ through its official handle GST Tech – GST portal is currently facing technical problems and is being maintained. Let us tell you that GST network is facing technical glitches since Thursday. Taxpayers are not able to prepare the summary of GSTR-1 and file returns.
