Han Jong Hee Death: Samsung Electronics co-CEO Han Jong-hee is no more, dies of a heart attack

Han Jong Hee Died: Samsung Electronics co-chief executive officer Han Jong-hee was 63 years old. Han was in charge of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile device division. A company spokesman said Han died at a hospital on Tuesday while undergoing treatment for cardiac arrest.

Han Jong Hee Died: South Korean tech giant Samsung Electronics said on Tuesday (March 25) that its co-CEO Jun Young-hyun Han Jong-hee has died of cardiac arrest. Han was 63 years old. Han was in charge of Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile device division. A company spokesman said Han died in a hospital on Tuesday while being treated for cardiac arrest.

The company said a successor has not yet been decided. The South Korean giant has suffered weak earnings and falling stock prices in recent quarters. It has lagged behind rivals in advanced memory chips and contract chip manufacturing, which have received strong demand from AI projects. Samsung has also given up its smartphone market crown to Apple.

Who was Han Jong-hee?

According to the company, Han, born in 1962, had been overseeing Samsung’s consumer electronics and mobile device businesses since 2022. He was appointed vice president and co-CEO of Samsung Electronics in 2022. Han’s co-CEO, Jun Young-hyun, leads its semiconductor business. Samsung paid tribute to Han, saying he has devoted more than 37 years of his life to building Samsung’s TV business into a global leader.

The spokesperson told CNN that no announcement has been made about Han’s successor.

Han, who joined Samsung Electronics nearly 40 years ago, made his career in the TV business. He became vice president and CEO of Samsung Electronics in 2022. Han was one of the company’s board members.

Education

Han joined the company in 1988 after earning a graduate degree in electrical engineering from Inha University. He was in charge of display operations before running Samsung’s electronics and device division. Han played a key role in rolling out Samsung’s LED TVs. He, along with other innovations, helped the company continue to lead in the technology sector.

He chaired Samsung’s shareholder meeting last week, where shareholders questioned him and other executives after the company failed to take advantage of an artificial intelligence boom, making it one of the worst-performing tech stocks last year. In semiconductors, Samsung lags behind SK Hynix in HBM chips, which Nvidia (NVDA.O) and others rely on for AI graphics processing units.
