Highest Tax: Indians pay highest tax on these things, see the full list here

Indians pay the highest taxes on luxury clothing, cement, automobile parts, tobacco, cinema tickets and food and drinks in five-star hotels. These items attract 28% GST.

Highest Tax: The issue of tax in India has always been a topic of discussion. Especially when the budget is about to be presented. People expect that the government will try to improve their financial condition by giving relief in taxes. At present, goods and services in India have been divided into different slabs under the Goods and Services Tax (GST).

Goods included in 28% GST slab

When GST was introduced in 2017. Then 226 products were included in the 28 percent tax slab. However. Over time this list was shortened and now only 35 products come under this slab. These mainly include products. Which are considered luxury or non-essential.

  • Cement, automobile parts, tyres, motor vehicle equipment
  • Tobacco, cigarettes, pan masala
  • Specialty items like aircraft and yaks
  • Cinema tickets, food and drinks in five-star hotels

Earlier they were in 28%, now taxes have been reduced

A few years ago, 15 items included in the 28% tax slab were reduced to 18% tax slab. These included items like washing machine, 27 inch TV, vacuum cleaner, fridge and paint. This has given some relief to the general public.

Petrol and diesel outside GST

Petrol and diesel do not come under the purview of GST right now. The central and state governments levy VAT and other taxes on them according to their own. If they are included in GST and kept in the 28% slab. So the prices of petrol and diesel can be reduced significantly. This burden of tax especially affects the general public and industries. During the preparation of Budget 2025, people hope that the government will try to give relief from inflation by changing these rates. However, it is difficult to say anything about any special amendment in the GST rates. Yes, it is definitely that the government can make some big announcement regarding the income tax scope.
