Due to the scorching heat in Punjab, holidays have been declared in schools. Due to extreme heat, schools will remain closed from May 21 to June 30. Due to heat wave, it has become difficult for people to go out of their houses. On Sunday, the maximum temperature recorded in Bathinda, Punjab was 46.4 degrees, which is 5.3 degrees above normal. The Meteorological Department has refused any kind of relief at present.

Red alert has been issued for Amritsar, Tarn Taran, Firozpur, Fazilka, Faridkot, Muktsar, Moga, Bathinda, Barnala and Mansa of Punjab for the next four days.

The department has warned that the temperature in Punjab may increase by two to three degrees in the next few days. If the situation remains like this then the mercury may cross 50 degrees for the first time in May. The Meteorological Department has also issued an advisory to avoid heat wave.

Timings of double shift schools also changed in Punjab

Now the timing of double shift schools in Punjab has also been changed. The first shift will open from 7 to 10 am and the second shift will open from 10.15 to 1.15 pm. Earlier on Saturday, the department had issued an order to change the timing of opening of single shift schools from 7 am to 12 noon. These orders will remain effective till May 31. School Education Department Secretary Kamal Kishore Yadav said that these orders will remain effective till May 31.

Advisory issued to avoid heat wave

  • Drink adequate amount of water. Avoid drinking alcohol and caffeine containing things
  • Avoid exposure to sunlight between 11 am and 4 pm
  • If necessary, cover your head with a cap, some cloth or carry an umbrella.
    Wear cotton and loose clothes and light colors
  • Farmers and laborers should take initiative to work in low temperature times
  • Take periodic breaks during work and rest in a shady place
  • Drink water and other fluids to hydrate your body throughout the day.
  • Farmers should water their crops only in the morning and evening.
