Home Delivery of Alcohol: According to a report, many Indian states including Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Kerala and Delhi are considering starting online home delivery of alcohol through Swiggy, BigBasket, Zomato and Blinkint. At present, there is a plan to start it as a pilot project. In the initial phase, home delivery of products with low alcohol percentage like beer and wine will be allowed.

According to a report, many Indian states including Karnataka, Haryana, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Kerala and Delhi are considering starting online home delivery of alcohol through Swiggy, BigBasket, Zomato and Blinkint. At present, there is a plan to start it as a pilot project. According to the Economic Times report, in the initial phase, home delivery of products with low alcohol percentage like beer, wine and liquor will be approved.
The report states that at present the officials are evaluating the advantages and disadvantages of this move. Let us tell you that at present home delivery of alcohol is allowed only in 2 states of the country – Odisha and West Bengal.
The report quoted an official as saying, “This move is being considered in view of the changing eating habits of people, especially in big cities. A large population of consumers consume these medium quantity alcohol products as a recreational drink with food. It will also meet the needs of women and senior citizens, who do not like to shop from traditional liquor stores due to the poor shop-front experience.”
Let us tell you that during the COVID-19 lockdown, home delivery of liquor was temporarily allowed with restrictions in Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Chhattisgarh and Assam. According to ET’s report, home delivery of liquor during the lockdown in these states was successful despite all the temporary restrictions.
According to the report, retail industry officials said that due to online delivery, a 20 to 30 percent increase in sales was seen in West Bengal and Odisha at that time.
